Treatment, or chikitsa, is divided into:

Aushadham — medicine, and Pathyam — regime (which in turn divides into Ahara, food, and Vihara, activity).
Pathyam and Aushadham are both needed to remove roga (illness).
The forms of treatment include Shamana chikitsa (palliative therapy), Shodhana chikitsa (cleansing therapy), Rasayana chikitsa, Kayakalpa chikitsa and Vajikarana chikitsa.
